The Year of the Fire Horse: Moving Forward Without Burning Out

Yoga, Reiki and Women’s Retreats in Oxfordshire

As we move into the Year of the Fire Horse (17th February), a time associated with energy, momentum and forward movement, many women are already feeling the weight of keeping up.

The Horse symbolises strength and the ability to keep going — but it also reminds us of something often overlooked: energy needs care. Even the strongest bodies need moments of rest, support and steady nourishment.

In my work supporting women through gentle yoga, Reiki training, healing and women’s retreats, I see this daily. Women aren’t lacking motivation or resilience — they’re carrying a lot, often quietly.

This year invites a different approach: moving forward with awareness and support, rather than pushing through until exhaustion sets in.

When “Coping” Starts to Feel Heavy

In my women’s yoga events and Reiki sessions, I often hear similar reflections:

  • “I’m managing, but I’m exhausted.”

  • “I don’t feel unwell — I just feel worn down.”

  • “I can’t remember the last time I really rested.”

This isn’t weakness. It’s the nervous system responding to long-term demand.

Burnout doesn’t always arrive loudly. Often it shows up quietly — tight shoulders, shallow breathing, poor sleep, irritability, low energy or a sense of always being slightly behind yourself.

The solution isn’t to stop caring or doing — it’s to change how you support yourself while you do.

Simple, Practical Ways to Support Yourself During a Working Day

These are small, realistic practices many women use alongside yoga and Reiki — nothing complicated, nothing performative.

1. Pause the Nervous System (Not the To-Do List)

You don’t need more time — you need a different quality of pause.

  • Sit back in your chair

  • Place your feet flat on the floor

  • Take one slow breath out through the mouth

Even 30 seconds helps signal safety to the body.

2. Gentle Movement Between Tasks

This isn’t exercise — it’s release.

  • Roll the shoulders

  • Stretch the neck

  • Stand up between tasks

Gentle movement reduces tension before it turns into fatigue — something we focus on heavily in gentle yoga for women.

3. Soften the Exhale

Stress shortens the breath.
Try inhaling through the nose and exhaling more slowly through the mouth, especially between meetings or daily tasks.

4. Listen Earlier

Ignoring discomfort doesn’t make it disappear — it makes it louder later.
Early listening is a form of self-care, not indulgence.

Gentle Yoga for Women in Oxfordshire

My women’s yoga events in Oxfordshire are designed for real bodies and real lives — not pushing, forcing or striving.

They offer:

  • gentle, supportive movement

  • breath-led practices for stress relief

  • space to rest without explanation

For International Women’s Day, I offer special Yoga sessions that honour women’s strength while also recognising the need for care, rest and balance.

Women attend from Henley-on-Thames, Caversham, Reading, Oxfordshire and Berkshire, often saying they leave feeling calmer, steadier and better equipped to meet daily demands.

Reiki Healing and Reiki Training for Women

Reiki is often sought by women who are capable and resilient — but quietly exhausted underneath it all.

Reiki healing supports:

  • deep relaxation

  • emotional release

  • nervous system regulation

I offer Reiki treatments in Oxfordshire, as well as Reiki training courses for women who feel drawn to energy work — either for personal support or as a path they feel called to explore.

Reiki isn’t about fixing yourself. It’s about learning how to receive support.

When You Need More Than a Weekly Practice

Sometimes a weekly yoga class or Reiki session isn’t enough — what’s needed is space away from routine and responsibility.

The Goddess Yoga Retreat in Barcelona, Spain is a women-only retreat offering:

  • gentle yoga

  • Reiki

  • rest and reflection

  • quiet, supportive space

It’s designed for women who need time to reset, reconnect and decide how they want to move forward — without pressure or expectation.

Moving Forward, With Support

The Year of the Fire Horse isn’t asking you to go faster.
It’s asking you to move with awareness, care and support.

Strength and rest are not opposites — they belong together.

If you’re feeling tired beneath the surface, consider this your reminder:
You don’t need to earn rest. Support is allowed.

If you’re looking for a safe, supportive space, you’re warmly invited to explore:

  • Women’s yoga events (including International Women’s Day sessions)

  • Reiki healing and Reiki training courses

  • The Goddess Yoga Retreat in Spain

About the Author

Rebecca Dobson is a women’s yoga teacher, Reiki Master Teacher & practitioner and retreat guide based in Sonning Common, Oxfordshire, and the founder of GetCalmer. Rebecca Dobson

Rebecca founded GetCalmer in 2001, with a vision to pass on her knowledge and passion of holistic therapies to others and ultimately to help people "get calmer".

Having a sales background, Rebecca knew only too well the stressful effects that working in a pressurised environment can have on the body, and how little people take care of themselves.

With this in mind, Rebecca followed her passion and spent a year re-training in various holistic therapies, including massage and Reiki, gaining experience working privately, in spa’s and practicing onsite massage in the workplace.

Since completing her Sivananda Yoga Teacher Training in 2006, Rebecca has been taught by many worldwide accredited yoga teachers over the years, including Claire Missingham, Kathryn Budig, Jason Crandell and the most influential Dr. Francoise Freedman, Director and Founder of Birthlight. All of which have shaped her in to the yoga teacher she is today. Rebecca would describe herself as a down to earth teacher and therapist who is personable, creative, patient and intuitive. She lightly weaves yoga philosophy and anatomy into her classes, making them well-rounded and accessible. In her opinion, yoga isn’t just about busting a pose, it’s so much more than that; yoga can help you understand yourself, others and the world we live in; all you need is an open mind.

Rebecca’s next mission is to spread the word to every Woman on the profound benefits of yoga to help improve and enhance Women’s health. Who knows at this point where it will lead her, but I bet you any money it’ll be something truly exciting!
