The Reiki Journey: From First Steps to Mastery

September always feels like a time of fresh beginnings. The summer holidays end, the pace of life shifts, and many of us feel called to start something new for ourselves. If you’ve been searching for a powerful tool to support your health, wellbeing, and inner calm — Reiki might be that path.

What is Reiki?

Reiki is a Japanese healing practice that works with universal life energy. It’s a gentle yet powerful way to bring balance to body, mind, and spirit. Many people come to Reiki seeking stress relief, relaxation, or emotional support — and soon discover it offers much more.

Through simple techniques, Reiki helps restore harmony within, creating a sense of clarity and peace. It can ease anxiety, boost resilience, and support overall wellbeing. Reiki is suitable for anyone — you don’t need experience, just an open mind and a willingness to learn.

My Reiki Journey

For me, Reiki has been a pillar of strength for well over 20 years. It has supported me through all stages of life — offering calm when the world felt chaotic, clarity when I didn’t know which way to turn, and tools to manage stress and anxiety.

Reiki has opened doors I never expected, both personally and professionally. It has shaped the way I live, the way I support others, and the way I meet challenges. Quite simply, I wouldn’t be without it.

What Students Have Experienced

Here’s what past students have shared about their Reiki journey:

“Rebecca created a calm, supportive and non-judgemental environment and instilled her passion for Reiki in each person who attended.” – Louise

“After a traumatic few years, I feel like I’ve found a bit of me again. Reiki is now part of my everyday routine and also part of me.” – Ali

“Thank you for sharing your wisdom and making the course so welcoming, intuitive, and inspiring.” – Helen

The Reiki Path — From First Steps to Mastery

One of the beautiful things about Reiki is that it’s a journey. There is always another step if you feel called to deepen your practice.

  • Reiki Level 1
Perfect for beginners. You’ll learn how to use Reiki for self-healing, relaxation, and balance in daily life. Many people describe it as life-changing — like being given a toolkit for calm.

  • Reiki Level 2
This stage introduces sacred symbols and the ability to offer Reiki to others, including distant healing. It’s often the point where Reiki becomes a deeper part of your lifestyle.

  • Reiki Master Practitioner 3a
A path of commitment and empowerment. Becoming a Reiki Master Practitioner doesn’t mean you must teach, but it opens profound healing and spiritual growth, deepening your connection with yourself and your ability to guide others.

Wherever you are, there’s always a next step waiting for you.

Why Autumn is the Perfect Time to Begin

Autumn invites us to slow down, reflect, and reset. It’s the season of letting go of what no longer serves us and planting seeds for what we want to grow. Beginning (or deepening) your Reiki practice in September offers you the tools to support your wellbeing through the months ahead.

It’s also a time to do something just for you. Many women I work with come to Reiki because they want to take charge of their own health and create a calm space within — no matter what’s happening in the world around them.

Rebecca Dobson

Rebecca founded GetCalmer in 2001, with a vision to pass on her knowledge and passion of holistic therapies to others and ultimately to help people "get calmer".

Having a sales background, Rebecca knew only too well the stressful effects that working in a pressurised environment can have on the body, and how little people take care of themselves.

With this in mind, Rebecca followed her passion and spent a year re-training in various holistic therapies, including massage and Reiki, gaining experience working privately, in spa’s and practicing onsite massage in the workplace.

Since completing her Sivananda Yoga Teacher Training in 2006, Rebecca has been taught by many worldwide accredited yoga teachers over the years, including Claire Missingham, Kathryn Budig, Jason Crandell and the most influential Dr. Francoise Freedman, Director and Founder of Birthlight. All of which have shaped her in to the yoga teacher she is today. Rebecca would describe herself as a down to earth teacher and therapist who is personable, creative, patient and intuitive. She lightly weaves yoga philosophy and anatomy into her classes, making them well-rounded and accessible. In her opinion, yoga isn’t just about busting a pose, it’s so much more than that; yoga can help you understand yourself, others and the world we live in; all you need is an open mind.

Rebecca’s next mission is to spread the word to every Woman on the profound benefits of yoga to help improve and enhance Women’s health. Who knows at this point where it will lead her, but I bet you any money it’ll be something truly exciting!
